The Federal Government has added veterinarians to the Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List allowing overseas vets to apply for an exemption to be able to travel to Australia for work. It is hoped that this will help to alleviate the current veterinary shortage associated with the COVID-19 pandemic and a surge in demand for veterinary services.

As reported by The Age, AVA President Dr Warwick Vale has welcomed the initiative, and said that it was a short term measure to help the profession get through the current crisis. Up to 1200 veterinarians attended a virtual forum hosted by the AVA last week to discuss the issues currently faced by the veterinary profession. Read more
