The recent summer’s bushfires surrounded Mogo Wildlife Park near Batemans Bay on the NSW south coast, with staff fortunately able to save all 200 of the zoo’s animals. The zoo has since built and opened a new wildlife veterinary hospital to cater for both its own animals and to aid the treatment and rehabilitation of injured or displaced native wildlife.

The new veterinary hospital was funded through donations from the community and corporate partners, one of many fundraising campaigns active since the recent bushfires. Director of Mogo Wildlife Park Chad Staples, said the new facility would play a vital role in helping the rehabilitation of local wildlife, “We fought very hard to save, and protect, native animals including koalas, kangaroos, echidnas and wallabies throughout the bushfires, but sadly millions of other animals perished. Our newly equipped hospital means we will be able to help our community by providing a new hub for protecting wildlife”.

One of the wildlife park’s residents, Snow the female white lion, was the first animal to undergo a procedure in the new veterinary hospital. Watch video >
