A research study published in the journal Nature, found that whilst there had been a shift towards desexing younger cats, it also highlighted that many cats will have had opportunities to reproduce before they are desexed.

Desexing of kittens prior to the onset of puberty is being encouraged to prevent unwanted litters that contribute to unowned cat populations.
